Peacock













Peacock( A Bird)
            The Peacock is one of the most beautiful birds of this earth. It is the national birds of India. It has received this recognition because of its long association with Indian life, culture and civilization and its beauty and usefulness.


Types:

            There are two varieties of peacock, viz. The Indian and the Burmese. The main difference between the two types is that the Indian peacock has a tuft of short has a pointed crest. feathers on its head to form a half-moon shaped crest,while the Burmese bird.

Habitat:
            Peacock is a hardly bird. It has unique adaptability to extreme climatic conditions.Thus, it can live in the hot, dry desert region of Rajasthan as well as it can adjust nicely with colder climates of Europe and America. Generally, peacock it sleep quietly on the lower branches of tall tress. like to live in the bushes or Jungles near a permanent water source. At night


Nature:
Peacocks are timid and shy creature. In nature they live in groups. Usually in a flock, five to six peahens, one peacock and several chicks are found. They cannot fly much but can run fast on their strong legs, Their wings are not strong enough for flying. So they prefer walking to flying.

            The Call of the peacock is harsh and shrill. It is generally very alert and intelligent in nature. So, at the sight of any danger they crow loudly in a shrill voice to alert other birds. One can hear peacock calling in the morning and evening, especially on a cloudy day. During a cloudy and rainy day, peacocks unfold their decorative plumes and dance joyfully, which is a most delightful and rare sight.
            The peahen (female) compared to the peacock is dull looking and smaller in size; peahen ha no plume. The peahen lays 3-5 eggs at a time in a hole of the trunk of a tree or in a bush. They sometimes dig small holes in the soil with their legs to lay eggs. The color of the egg is white. It takes twenty six to twenty eight days to hatch.   
In India people believe that whenever the cock spread its tails in an ornamental fashion, it indicates that rain is imminent . In a way it is partly true. At the sight of dark clouds the birds outspreads its tail and start dancing rhythmic fashion

      "कवि कालिदास ने भी (छठी शताब्दी) इसे उस जमाने में राष्ट्रीय पक्षी का दर्जा दिया था देवी-देवताओं से सम्बन्ध होने के कारण हिन्दू समाज इसे दिव्य पक्षी मानता है जो सम्मान गौ को दिया जाता है, वही मोर को भी देते हैं इसी भावना से ओतप्रोत होकर कोई भी हिन्दू उसका वध नहीं करता मोर देवताओं के सेनापति और शिव के पुत्र कार्तिकेय का वाहन है
       मोर जब मस्त होकर नाचता है तो अपनी पूंछ को उठाकर पंखे की तरह फैला लेता  है मोर के शरीर में कई रंगों तथा उनकी छायाओं का अद्‌भुत सम्मिश्रण होता है गले और छाती का रंग नीला होता है गरदन की नीलिमा के कारण संस्कृत में कवियों ने उसे नीलकण्डनाम दिया "
